We all thought we were doing the right thing. As coaches, parents, and sports organizations, we pushed everyone toward flag football instead of tackle, sure we were making the smart choice. Everyone in sports bought into this idea. But new research has turned everything we thought we knew upside down.
A University of Iowa study reveals that flag football actually causes MORE injuries than tackle football. That's right – the sport we thought was safer? It’s actually putting athletes at higher risk.
This is backed up by a study published in the National Library of Medicine. We’re not talking about scrapes and bruises. We’re talking torn knees, busted ankles, dislocated shoulders. The kind of injuries that can stick with athletes for life.
So, why does this happen?
Look at what's happening on fields across America. Players sprinting full-speed, diving for flags, making sudden turns - with zero protection.
While tackle players are covered in protective gear, flag football players are out there completely exposed every time they dive for a flag.
And it’s not just football, either. Think about all those “safe” games we’ve trusted for years—dodgeball, capture the flag, tag—where players dive, dodge, or grab. Injury happens hundreds of times every game.
Quick pivots and sudden stops can cause ankle and knee sprains when ligaments are overstretched. Common in high-speed games.
Dislocations occur from impacts or falls, while AC separations affect the collarbone joint, causing pain and limited movement.
Sudden twists can damage knee cartilage (meniscus) or ligaments like ACL/MCL, causing pain and instability.
Impact to the thigh can lead to bruising, swelling, and tenderness from collisions or tackles.
Twisting or landing awkwardly can tear the ACL, causing knee instability, pain, and difficulty moving.
Sudden lateral movements can cause sharp pain in the groin or inner thigh, especially in fast-paced games.
A blow to the head can cause dizziness, headaches, and confusion, requiring medical attention
Hard falls or impacts can lead to neck pain, sometimes spreading to the shoulders or arms.
Hard hits or falls can cause fractures, often alongside sprains or strains, ranging from minor to serious

Growing up, I was always around people who loved football, but because of my stature, I couldn’t play. This gave me a unique view of the risks that come with traditional football, especially how it can affect players long-term. As I got older, I wanted to find a way to solve this problem and make sports safer and more inclusive for future generations.
That’s how Elusive Stealth Gear was born. Our goal is simple: to create a safer, more inclusive way for everyone to enjoy traditional sports. We’re starting with flag football, but we’re all about offering a better alternative to traditional games. Our mission is to get people more active by making sports fun and safe for everyone, no matter their age or ability. We want to connect the world through sports, helping kids learn teamwork and giving adults an easier way to get back into the games they love.
